Termly is excited to announce that we’ve joined the Google Consent Management Platform (CMP) Partner Program.

Being a Google CMP Partner means Google recognizes that Termly’s CMP easily integrates with Google Consent Mode. You can use our tools to unlock all of Google Consent Mode’s functionality, capturing valuable aggregated and anonymized data regarding your analytics and marketing campaigns when users opt out of tracking.

Termly’s Consent Management Platform has supported Google Consent Mode for over a year with our Google Tag Manager template, and now the partnership is official —  we can help you with setup and troubleshooting, too.

In 2020, Google launched Google Consent Mode, which provides website owners with a way to control the advertising and analytics cookies or trackers that get placed on users’ browsers for websites using the following Google services:

  • Google Analytics
  • Google Ads
  • Floodlight
  • Conversion Linker

When enabled, it introduces new tag settings that adapt for each user based on their consent choices.

These tag settings allow Google to collect non-identifying information about users who opt out of your use of cookies and other trackers, so you can measure conversions and other visitor information in an aggregated form.

Google Consent Mode works seamlessly with Termly’s consent management platform.

When you sign up to use our CMP, the first step is running a website scan, which finds, categorizes, and defines all cookies or trackers on your site. If you use Google services, you can then configure the consent banner to support Google Consent Mode.

When properly set up, the banner communicates your users’ consent choices to Google Consent Mode, which blocks cookies unless a user provides active consent.

Below, see an example of the configuration settings for our consent banner, which includes a Google Consent Mode option.

The screenshot below shows one way you might design the consent banner for Google Consent Mode compatibility — our Pro+ customers can change the colors, remove the Termly logo, and make additional design choices so the banner matches the aesthetics and branding of your site.

Termly’s CMP communicates your users’ consent choices to Google Consent Mode, and the Google tags adjust what data they collect accordingly.

If someone agrees to the cookies, Termly’s CMP transfers that choice via tags directly to Google Consent Mode, and all scripts run like normal across the Google services you’re using, like Analytics, Ads, Tag Manager, and others.

When someone declines consent to the cookies, Google Consent Mode recognizes their choice. The tags then appropriately update across all compatible Google services you’re using, so no cookies are placed on those browsers but you still receive aggregated, fully anonymized data.
