Who is a third party under CCPA?

A third party under CCPA is a person or agency who receives personal information but is outside of the business that collects the personal information.

‘Third party’ is explicitly defined in section 1798.140 Definitions of the CCPA as a ‘person’ (i.e. individual, business, or entity) who is not any of the following:

• The business with whom the consumer intentionally interacts and that collects personal information from the consumer as part of the consumer’s current interaction with the business under the CCPA;
• A service provider to the business;
• A contractor.
