Termly is excited to announce the acquisition of the GDPR/CCPA Cookie Consent Banner plugin for WordPress. This plugin has been a useful tool for thousands of WordPress website creators over the last several years. With this acquisition, Termly plans to update and improve the plugin to better serve the WordPress community and to expand and enhance data privacy protection for its users.

We’re committed to making this transition as easy as possible. This page covers commonly asked questions, but if you have additional questions, feel free to contact Termly’s support team at [email protected].

About Termly

If you’re new to Termly, welcome! Termly is a software company that creates products to help businesses comply with data privacy regulations. Termly offers a cookie consent solution, as well as customized privacy policy, legal agreement, disclaimer and other compliance-related document generators. We have a team of engineers, data privacy attorneys, designers, and more working on expanding and enhancing our compliance products every day.

At Termly, we’re happy to serve businesses around the world — from small companies and budding startups to web development agencies, legal offices, and larger enterprises. Our team works around the clock to ensure you don’t have to worry about remaining compliant.

New plugin features

With this acquisition, Termly will be updating the existing plugin by adding advanced GDPR- and CCPA-compliance features for existing users. You’ll be able to scan your website for cookies, automatically block third party scripts from running before your users give consent, embed a consent banner, and more with your free Termly account.

GDPR and CCPA compliance

Termly’s products, including the cookie consent management platform, are designed to cover the EU GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, UK GDPR, and the CCPA.

These laws require more than just a cookie consent banner to be compliant. Termly can help you build a privacy policy, create a Data Subject Access Request form, and comply with other privacy law requirements.

If you choose to upgrade to Termly’s Pro+ plan, you’ll gain access to additional features, including consent banner customization, additional consent logs, multiple languages, unlimited legal policy creation, and more.

Plugin transition timeline

The plugin will undergo a minor version change on July 2, 2021, which will include notifications about the upcoming changes and also disable automatic plugin updates for users who don’t want to upgrade to the new version. After that period, the overhauled plugin will be released as version 3.0 on July 16, 2021.

Frequently asked questions

Can I continue to use the legacy version of the plugin?

Yes, but the legacy version has not been reviewed for compliance with the GDPR or other privacy laws, and will not be supported or receive updates.

How do I transition to the updated plugin?

You will need to create a free Termly account to continue using the plugin from version 3.0 and above. You will be able to create an account through a link in the version 3.0 plugin, or you can create an account directly from Termly’s site and then link the plugin to your Termly account. From here, you can scan your site for cookies, enable and customize the cookie consent banner.

Is Termly free?

Termly has a free tier that is currently used by thousands of companies around the web and includes all basic features to be compliant with cookie consent, privacy policy, and other related privacy law requirements. The free plan has a limit on unique monthly visitors to your consent banner. When that limit has been reached, your banner will stop collecting consent records until the following month. You can upgrade to a Pro+ plan to unlock additional monthly visitors and access even more features on your consent banner. Visit our pricing page for more information.
